Preservation of our Endangered Wildlife | OMG!

via onemoregeneration.org

Who is OMG or One More Generation?

One More Generation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the preservation of endangered species and our environment. Our goal is to ensure all endangered species survive at least One More Generation… and beyond. Two students of the Fayette Montessori School founded OMG in Fayetteville, GA back in late 2009. The founders are Carter (now 10.5) and his Sister Olivia (now 9), who are both extremely passionate about animals and conservation.

We work hard at raising awareness to the issue of Plastic Pollution and the affects on all animals, to humans and to our environment. We also work with various agencies around the world seeking to provide the more than 1,000 species currently listed as Endangered or on the Threatened, list with the resources needed to ensure they survive at least One More Generation… and beyond.

This parody of Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know” has become a viral (at least on the west coast). Clearly, these guys posted it before Sunday’s game… but at this point, it could still go either way… right? Go Canucks Go!

'Mass Murder' of Rhinos: Extinction Predicted

Rhinos are being poached “at record rates” for their horns, which could lead to the species’ extinction in less than fifteen years.

The number of illegally hunted rhinos this year may reach over 600, surpassing last year’s record high of 448. Conservationists estimate that the world rhino population has plummeted 90% since 1970.

“We’ve certainly reached a tipping point in rhino populations. There is no way that our national populations can sustain the level of poaching,” Pelham Jones, chairman of the South Africa Private Rhino Owners Association, told Reuters on the sidelines of a conservation summit in Nairobi.

Selling the horns is a lucrative business; one horn can be worth $60,000 per kilogram, which is more than the price of gold. The horns are sold on the Asian market as a cure for various ailments including cancer, a claim scientists have dismissed.

In the video here, NBC correspondent Rohit Kachroo describes the killing and decimating of the rhino population as “mass murder.”

If you can play, you can play -- You Can Play Campaign fighting #homophobia in hockey

via youtube.com

You Can Play is hockey’s version of the It Gets Better Project. More and more NHL players continue to join Patrick Burke’s You Can Play initiative, which aims to fight “casual homophobia” in hockey (and all sports, really). Ryan Kesler and Henrik Sedin of the Vancouver Canuks are two of the latest players to join the cause.
